Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Lucas Girling and Echlin the giant American component-manufacturing corporation, have formed a European joint venture company called Grau Girling.

The new company combines Echlin's wholly-owned European subsidiaries Graubremse of Heidelberg, West Germany and Berg Manufacturing of Blackburn with Lucas Girling's Brake Controls Division based in Tredegar, South Wales.

Echlin owns 70% of the new company, Lucas Girling 30%. Brake Controls Division is the only Lucas Girling subsidiary affected by the deal.

Its major product is the Skidchek range of truck and trailer anti-lock systems. Both Graubremse and Berg design and manufacture air braking systems but neither company currently has an anti-lock system.

Last year Echlin bought the Lipe Clutch division of LipeRollway. It also owns Rotomaster and Rajay of Huddersfield, which manufac ture turbochargers and waste gates.

The road test of a Roadtrain 17.34 in CM, April 12 described its brakes as Leyland's own Rollercam design. In fact all Roadtrains are fitted with Lucas Girling's twin wedge foundation brakes.
