A successful general meeting followed the annual luncheon of the SouthEastern Area of the Road Haulage Association, which was held a few days ago, when all retiring members of the regional committee were unanimously re-elected. Mr. Richardson, whose term of office as chairman of the area had expired, expressed the wish that a new chairman be elected. The meeting refused this request and passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Mr. Richardson, whose re-election was confirmed. He was also re-elected as south-eastern area representative to the National Council. •

" Metro-Vickers " Takes Over G.V. Co.

It is announced that the Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., has taken over the assets, goodieill and manufacturing rights of the General

• Vehicle Co., London and Birmingham, The Metropolitan-Vickers Co. will now manufacture at its Attercliffe works, Sheffield, a complete range of electric commercial vehicles, varying from light delivery vans to large refuse collectors. The servicing and the supply of spare parts for existing G.V. vehicles will also be carried out by the MetropolitanVickers concern.

Fleet of British Fire-engines for Buenos The authorities at Buenos Aires have recently ordered a fleet of five Leyland fire-engines and a Leyland-Metz turntable all-steel escape.

Each of the five 500-g.p.m. fire-engines is to be equipped with a highpressure pump and auxiliary first-aid apparatus. An unusually large tank is being fitted, this having a capacity of gallons and being constructed Of stainless steel.
