R.H.A. TO ENTERTAIN I.T.A. DE LEGATES.

The Liverpool Committee of the Road Haulage Association is to entertain the delegates to the Industrial Transport Association Conference, at Liverpool, to a luncheon at the Constitutional Club, Liverpool, on May 18. Mr. R. B. Stockdale will preside and Mr. H. Allan (of McNamara and Co. [1921], Ltd.) will be director of ceremonies.

Municipal Vehicles for Bournemouth Show.

A display of gully and cesspool emptiers, road sweepers, street washers and refuse collectors has been permitted by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders at the Royal Sanitary Institute Health Exhibition, Bournemouth, from July 15-20.

National Board to Grade Yorkshire.

As no wages agreement had resulted from further negotiations between the employers' and employees panels of the Yorkshire Area Conciliation Board, the general purposes committee of the National Board met in London, last Friday, for the purpose of grading the Yorkshire Area, At this meeting, the committee interviewed representatives of the employers' and employees' panels of the Yorkshire Board. It is understood that the counter-proposals of the Yorkshire Stage Carriage Operators Association, which, in many respects, are contrary to the recommendations of the National Board, were also put forward. On Wednesday, the National Board could make no announcement of a decision.

NATIONAL SAFETY CONGRESS PROGRAMME.

The National Safety Congress will be held in London at the Park Lane Hotel. from May 29-31. It will be largely attended and will include representatives from many foreign safety organi zations. It will be opened by Mr.

• Hore-Belisha.

Included in the papers for discussion will be the following subjects: Traffic safety surveys—and their practical application to the work of local safety organizations, by Mr. W. H. Cameron, managing director, National Safety Council of America; other papers to be read will treat with brake-efficiency tests, pedestrian crossings, safety instruction in schools, latest developments in non-skid surfaces, street lighting and its relation to the safety of • roads, etc.

A reception by Sir Malcolm Campbell, M.B.E„ and Mr. Gordon Stewart will he held on the evening of May 29, and the Congress dinner will take place on May 30.
