• Transport minister Peter Bottomley was impressed by the way drawbar vehicles did not cut-in on corners when he visited a demonstration of drawbar and articulated lorry manoeuvrability last week. It was organised by West Sussex county council, which is pressing for a change on vehicle weights legislation (CM 3-9 March).

Bottomley said there was no chance of changing the law without a bill being drawn up for Parliament, but he was pleased that highway authorities were showing an interest in the lorry weight issue.
