MORE people would be killed or injured on Midlands roads if the M40 and M42 were not built, businessmen in Smethwick were told last week.

"We don't want to see repeated here the tragedies of the Al through Yorkshire, on which nearly 60 people were killed during a recent five-year period — or, most of all, the 'improved' A74 between Carlisle and Glasgow, upon which there were no less than 113 deaths between 1972 and 1976," warned Christopher Milner, secretary of the Midlands Road Develop Group.
