automatic revocation of the licence under the new operators' licensing system came from the Department of Transport this week.
Speaking at a conference in Maidenhead, DTp Road Freight Division principal David Scott-Malden warned operators with the restricted licence for own account use that offences of using a vehicle for hire or reward would be treated harshly.
"If you are caught on a second offence using a vehicle on a restricted licence then the penalty is obligatory. The licensing authority must revoke your licence," he said.
He described the two-tier system of licensing as "a let out for the own account operator," and especially for the one-vehicle user who merely carried his own products and raw materials.
