Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Midland Red has been granted an application to increase fares by 25 per cent by the East and West Midland. Traffic Commissioners as applied for. The Commissioners' reasons will be given in writing at a later date.

Mr Leslie Huckfield, MP for Nuneaton and Bedworth, who featured as an objector for the application at a public inquiry in Birmingham last week, said on Monday that he was disgusted and appalled by the grant.

He is to ask all the local authorities who objected to the application—approximately 50—to join him in an appeal to the Minister of Transport.

"Many of my constituents must by now have lost all confidence in the system of Traffic Commissioners," said Mr Huckfield, "and I think the whole system needs overhauling."

Stratford-upon-Avon Blue Motors Ltd has been granted a similar 25 per cent increase.
