A NORTH SEA roll-on/roll-off service merger has been concluded between Nike Line of Sweden and Tor Line. The Swedish Salen Shipping Group now has a large shareholding in Tor Line A.B. of Gothenburg, while Transatlantic holds the remaining third share.
In making this merger possible, KNSM, the Dutch shipping group previously involved in Tor Line, has sold its original 25 per cent shareholding to Transatlantic.
Nike Line has been operating a service between Sweden l and Rotterdam, and Tor Line has an extensive network of services between Sweden, Denmark, the Continent and the UK. Tor Line's UK ports of operation are Immingham and Felixstone, and the company also provides six return sailings a week between Immingham and Rotterdam.
A new freight-only ro-ro service is now being added by Tor Line between Copenhagen and Felixstowe. During the spring of this year and 1976 the company is to introduce two new "jumbo" ferries each having a winter loading capacity of 780 million metres for vehicles and a summer loading capacity of 150m metres.
