Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Your November 15 issue mentioned the possible training of women to drive London buses. I marked the article "20th Century"! The following week we zoomed right back to the 19th century when 46 union delegates voted against training women. {Incidentally, what sex were the 24 in favour?) "Women could not be trusted to handle buses in London's traffic." Could any man be trusted before he's trained? And how do they think the country bumpkins manage? Some months ago I travelled in a coach driven by a man who had gained his p.s.v. two weeks before, and had never seen London in all his 21 years—fortunately he was guided from Blackheath to M4 by a female driver of several years' experience.

I did my early driving around various dock towns and London, forming the opinion that London's traffic was the easiest.

I think these delegates will have to think of a better excuse. In the meantime–hurrah for modern Southall I BEN LEA Droitwich Spa, Worcs.
