Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Two of the AEC goods vehicles and the AEC Sabre and Guy Conquest (Daimler Roadliner as marketed on the Continent) to be seen at the Brussels Show next week will have the larger-capacity AEC V8 diesel that was displayed at Paris in October. This is the 810-V8 which has a capacity of 13.12 litres (801 cu. in.) and produces 272 bhp gross (BS:AU141) at 2-600 rpm and 636 lb ft. (BS:AU141) torque at 1,400 rpm. Bore is 135mm, 5mm, greater than the original 12.1 litre (742 Cu. in.) 800-V8 which has corresponding performance figures of 247 bhp and 580 lb ft.

The higher-power V8 was planned well before the new engine was introduced at the Commercial Motor Show and is the standard version for export markets. It is expected to become standard eventually in UK models also although a derated version—retaining the 247 bhp output through a modified fuel-injection system—is likely to be produced, especially for use in the Sabre coach chassis.

Both the V8 Mandator and Sabre at Brussels will have the Leyland 10-speed semi-automatic gearbox while the V8 Mammoth Major 6 will have an AEC 10speed constant-mesh box. Both these gearboxes have a torque capacity which is just adequate to meet the output of the 810-V8 engine.
