MR. F. J. BETTLEY, transport manager and registrar of W. T. Henley's Telegraph Works Co., Ltd., retired on January 31, after nearly 42 years' service with the company. He joined the Henley concern in 1897, and eventually took over duties in connection with shipping, which later developed into the transport department. MR. H. MURFIN has been appointed transport manager of the company.

MR. J. H. PARKER, M.I.E.E., has been appointed chief electrical engineer of London Transport. He served his engineering apprenticeship with Alley and McLellan, Ltd., of Glasgow, and after several electrical appointments, became, in 1925, general manager of the transport department of West HartlepOoi, where he was responsible for the complete change-over from tramways to trolleybuses. Mr. Parker has been responsible for the design and conversion of the overhead work in London for trolleybuses. He is vicechairman of the trolleybus committee of the British Electrical Development Association.

MR. STUART F. T. CHANDLER, Chief Road Engineer to the Government of Southern Rhodesia, was, in the New Year's Honours List, appointed an Officer of the British Empire. He has been responsible for the roads of Southern Rhodesia since 1925, and his name is associated with the strip roads and low-level bridges that have rendered possible the remarkable advance in road transport in that colony during the past decade. These conceptions, and the financial backing which he encouraged the Government to give, opened the whole colony to road transport, even during the wet season.
