Strong demand for HGVs as lights fade

• HGV registrations continued to grow in November, while sales of light CVs fell sharply, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
Volvo is doing well, with 734 sales last month, up from 423 in the same period last year. Volvo has sold 6,238 trucks this year; up 30% year-on-year.
Renault VI has also boosted its sales significantly.
The largest players continue to do well, though sales have slowed down over the past couple of months Iveco Ford and Leyland Daf have both maintained better registrations than in 1997, with Leyland Daf holding on to the market lead. Overall, the CV market over 3.5 tonnes has shown a healthy year-on-year increase of 16.5%.
By contrast, the light CV sector is slowing down: sales for the year to date are still up, but in the past couple of months sales of vehicles from 1,8003,500kg have been falling. Ford is selling fewer Transits than this time last year, and sales of Mercedes and Volkswagen vans have also slowed down.
But smaller manufacturers with new products such as Renault and Citroen are continuing to improve their figures.
