Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Environment Agency (EA) has stepped up the pressure on hauliers to take more responsibility for the environmentally sound disposal of used tyres.

EA Chief scientist Dr Jan Pentreath warns that cases of fly tipping are set to massively increase over the next few years, following the EC's decision to ban tyres from landfill sites. The National Tyre Distribution Association recently suggested that operators should make a voluntary payment of £7.50 to tyre manufacturers for every worn-out truck tyre casing sent for disposal (CM12-18 Nov).

The EA says hauliers should take better care of their tyres by reducing their mileage and "driving more carefully".
