Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BRITISH exports of agricultural engineering products this year should easily exceed last year's record figures, says Mr John Richman, president of the Agricultural Engineers Association.

Mr Richman was speaking during the preview to the Royal Smithfield Show, which has been running at Earls Court this week.

On the debit side, however, imports were also up.

Among imported machinery on show is the Unimog 425, which is being seen at Smithfield for the first time.

The 425 was introduced in Germany last year and has a Mercedes-Benz 0M352A sixcylinder diesel engine with a capacity of 5.7 litres (346 cu in) driving all four wheels.

Differential locks are fitted to both axles and the Unimog has a total of 24 forward gears.

Although at the moment the 425 is left-hand drive, righthand drive examples will be available.

During 1977, Mercedes also expects to import the smaller Unimog 406.

British go-anywhere vehicles are represented at Earls Court by Leyland's wellestablished Land-Rover range.

Four models are on display, including a 2.2m (88in) wheel base hardtop model fitted with an Atkinson, of Clitheroe, snow plough.

A further interesting adaptation being shown is a mobile servicing unit fitted into the back of a 2.8m (109in) wheelbase Land-Rover truck.

This Tecalem it (Engineering) Ltd unit enables routine lubrication maintenance to be carried out on plant or equipment without the need to bring it away from the site.

Trailers for both farm and road use are very much in evidence this year.

A 14.2-tonne (14-ton) Typhoon tipping trailer is introduced for the first time on the Cornercroft (Agriculture) Ltd stand, while the Tye Trailer Company shows two examples of its major 160 models, again newly introduced.

Weeks Trailers, of North Humberside, is showing examples of three-way tipping trailers. Also on the Weeks stand is a prototype compressor kit manufactured by Clayton Dewandre Industrial.

The kit is used where a three-line air trailer has to be towed by a vehicle without three-line air connections, such as a farm tractor.

It looks as if it could also have applicationsfor the general haulier who may need to move a drawbar trailer in his yard when no proper towing vehicle is available.

A range of adjustable valve seat cutters for Perkins engines are now availableā€¢from V. L. Churchill and Co, of Daventry, Northants, and these are on show for the first time at Earls Court The cutters are hand operated and suitable for all current Perkins Diesels.

Boxed in a kit, the set comprises three seat cutters, three degree cutters, two adjustable pilots, a cutter handle and holder and two, adjuster wrenches.

Additional cutters and pilots for servicing the uprated D.3.152 and, 4.163 engines can also be supplied.

The need for portable welding equipment is met by Lyte-Arc Welders Ltd, of Haywards Heath, with i newly announced weldii generator.

Known as the Dieselarc, tl unit is powered by either Petter or Ducati diesel engin A hand start is fitted to t; Petter unit while electric stE may be specified on the Duc ti.

Continuous adjustment three ranges gives the weld outputs of 60 to 180A, 40 115A and 20 to 70V.

Lyte Arc is al: demonstrating other models mains and power driven a welders.
