AHINT of more claims for higher wages during the next year was given by Cur. S. I. Dyson, chairman of the transport committee, when he told Sheffield City Council last week that the recent pay rise to drivers and conductors would 'cost them £113,000 a year. As 1 result, the transport department expects a deficit of more than £50,000 by March next year.

Cllr. Dyson, stating that the depaitment was understaffed by 460 perscms, hoped that now that wages were " quite reasonable," employees would be attracted.

Manchester Transport Department lost £10,000 in revenue as a result of the one-day strike held recently at three depots.
