MHE north-country motorbus and coaching industry scored another success during the August Bank Holiday week-end. On each '0 the days between Saturday and Wednesday passenger road motors proved their ability to cope with huge crowds of pleasure-seekers with speed, comfort

and general efficiency. With the resumption of full railway facilities and elaborate excursion arrangements, competition was much keener than during the Whitsuntide holiday.

In the Newcastle district many coach proprietors reported record business, whilst buses operating on

regular routes to both seaside resorts and inland beauty spots were kept running with capacity loads. The Newcastle Corporation Blue . buses, which run to several attractive holiday places, including Seaton Sluice, Ponteland and the West Tyne district, were kept busy, whilst "United Automobile Services, Ltd., did excellent business over their numerous routes in the Newcastle, Blyth, Ashing,ton and Morpeth sections, and carried large numbers of people to Whitley Bay and other coastal towns.

Similarly, the buses of the Northern General Transport Co., Ltd., were kept working at top pressure over the com pany's 200-odd miles of routes. In

addition, numerous coach tours were run.

Farther southward, United Automobile Services, Ltd., were equally prominent in catering for holiday-makers in the Bishop Auckland, Darlington and Teesside districts. Accelerated services enabled them to deal with large crowds, and, in most cases, they provided cheaper and quicker facilities than the railway.
