A REDUCTION of more than £4m. in rA the estimated cost of the projected Humber bridge, achieved by use of new construction techniques, will mean lower tolls than originally forecast. Figures now proposed are 5s. to 7s. for light commercial vehicles, 8s. to 10s. for medium-weight commercials and 10s. to 14s. for heavies; buses and coaches would be charged 13s. These are lower charges than the present ferry tolls.
The bridge, which will be of suspension type, is intended to span the Humber between Hessle and Barton on Humber and would cut 27 miles on a journey from Hull to London, 33 to Lincoln and 46 to Grimsby and East Lincs.
