Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Bridgford Urban District Council Bill, which came before a Select Committee of •the House of Commons recently, that proposes that the municipality may run buses for special purposes within a 511-mile radius of the town. At present, special buses may be operated only on those routes on which normal services are authorized.

The objectors are Barton Transport, Ltd., South Notts Bus Co., Ltd., Robin Hood Coaches, Ltd., Trent Motor Traction Co., Ltd., Midland General Omnibus Co., Ltd., Notts and Derbyshire Traction Co., Mansfield District Traction Co., Ltd., and Messrs. Arthur Skill. The Public Transport Association are also objecting.

Mr. H. Williams, Q.C., for the council, said that West Bridgford had 22 buses, 18 of which were used almost to capacity during peak hours. Off peaks, however, only nine vehicles were on the road and the council were paying employees for many gainless hours.

The transport department had many requests to provide special vehicles for parties., Some were for long journeys, in which the council did not wish to engage, but there was a demand for buses to make shorter special journeys vd-rich was not met by Noitingham operators.

ANTI-TAX POSTERS TO STAY

REMOVAL from the municipal buses of posters opposing the fuel tax was unsuccessfully urged by Bailie W. G. Reid at a meeting of Glasgow Corporation, last week. Cllr. R. McAllister, convener of the transport committee, explained that the posters had been prepared by the Municipal Passenger Transport Association and in displaying them the corporation weae simply putting an agreed policy into operation.

Rochdale Transport Committee have approved a suggestion of the M.P.T.A. that drivers who do not stay with their departments for 12 months after completing their training should repay part of the cost of their instruction. Preston Transport Committee have deferred consideration of the matter. Glasgow already operates the scheme.

TROLLEYBUSES OUSTED BY MOTORBUSES QANCTION was given by the East Midland Licensing Authority, last week, for the replacement of trolleybuses by motorbuses on six services of the Notts and Derbyshire Traction Co. It was stated that the motorbuses would be run jointly by this concern and the Midland General Omnibus Co., Ltd.

Nottingham Corporation objected to a 1,d. fare on one service, which, they said, should be 2d. and so align with the charge on their vehicles. An appropriate adjustment was made by the Authority.
