Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Driver CPC requires all category C and D Licence holders including Cl and 1:11 to complete 35 hours of training every five years to maintain their CPC qualification. Those who held the relevant category of driving licence on or before 10 September 2009 already hold acquired Igrandfathed rights and have until September 2014 to complete their periodic training. Those who pass their initial qualification have up to five years from the date they qualified !passed Module 41to complete their PT.

The initial qualification is made up of four modules; Modules 1 and 2 theory only Module 3 -1-1C3V driving test

Module 4 practical use of truck (no driving! Includes roping and strapping; driver checks; • ocking for stowaways; dealing with emergency situations.

Periodic training courses must be approved by the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training DAUPT1 and each module must be at least seven hours long and completed within a 24-hour period. The training may be taken at any time during the five-year period. For example, if an acquired rights driver completed all 35 hours of training this year ahead of the 2014 deadline, his next Driver CPC would have an expiry date of 2019.

The form the training takes is flexible it may be workshopor classroom-based or in-vehicle training. It can relate to basic compliance issues such as drivers hours; toad security, digital tachographs and working time regulations; or it can focus on the specialist nature of a driver's work, such as ADR or multi-drop delivery. Employers may set up their own courses as long as they are JAUPT-approved.

Training is recorded on a driver qualification card, which must be camed by drivers when they are driving professionally. It is issued on completion of the initial test (Module 41 and when 35 hours of PT have been completed. The cards are issued automatically by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency and PT is recorded on a central database run by the Driving Standards Agency. Drivers with acquired nghts pay £43.75 for their card (E1.25 per hour while they are completing their 35 hours PT!; those taking the initial DCPC pay E55 for their Module 4 practical test, which includes their card. Drivers who lose their card must apply for a new card within seven days and can drive for 15 days without one. Sources: includes Freight Transport Association and www. hgvtgvtraining.co.uk
