Jennifer Ball tells the fate of a driver who walked away from a fatal crash.

AN UNINSURED TRUCK driver has been jailed for four years after his truck crashed into a car, killing a three-year-old girl on the A614 last March.

Michael Moden of Gainsborough. Lines was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving. Hull Crown Court heard how Moden had been driving a skip truck along the road towards Howden, East Yorkshire. when he became distracted by a noise at the back of the vehicle. As he looked over his shoulder he drifted onto the wrong side of the road, Farmer Stephen Wilburn tried to avoid the oncoming truck but it smashed into the side of his Land Rover, killing his daughter Sally.

Moden who had never driven the truck before, drove off, before crashing through fencing and coming to a halt 150 metres away He then tried to hitch a lift with another truck driver to Market Weighton but was caught by police.

He initially denied that he had been involved in the crash and carried on walking, it was claimed. Moden had previous convictions for burglary, violent crimes and drug offences, as well as for driving while disqualified.

Judge Michael Mettyear said:"I find it impossible to disguise the contempt I feel for you. You've spent your life mining the lives of other people."
