Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE largest of the Gas Light and Coke Co.'s 16 manufacturing stations scattered over London and adjacent districts is the Beckton works, which supply approximately 40 per cent, of the gas requirements of the area served. These works are, with their numerous huge gas holders flanked by towering buildings, a dominant landmark from the River Thames. Occupying, together with the chemical works, 540 acres, no less than 120 million cubic ft. of gas can be produced daily.

Such a vast works calls for a carefully planned internal transport system, and although a full-gauge railway of a total length approaching 70 miles is employed for the conveyance of coal and other materials continually being unloaded at the company's own piers adjoining the works. a Karrier Bantam lorry also plays an important part. Its main function is to transport, around the factory ground, spare parts, tools, drums of oil, wire ropes, and castings, some of which weigh nearly a ton each. This specialized transport demands a machine having as its chief attributes easy handling, ability to transverse uneven ground, and, because of the frequent stopping and starting, low running costs.

Additionally, the full-forward position of the Bantam's power unit and driving seat affords outstanding manceuvrability, making it easy for the vehicle to enter confined spaces. Another interesting point is that the 40 b.h.p. engine incorporates magneto ignition, and this is important on work involving much stopping and starting and little straight running.

Although low loading is a feature of the design of this Earner model, the drop-sided body has a small demountable swivelling hoist located forward on the off side, and this is used to assist in loading and unloading the heavier castings, etc.

The mileage covered by this vehicle is not great, but, nevertheless, the transport task upon which it is employed is fraught with certain difficulties.
