Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE East Midlands Traffic Commissioners were told at Nottingham last week that " money spent by British Railways in resisting this application would have been better spent instructing their staff in Hinckley, Leicestershire, of the facilities they had to offer ".

The comment was made by Mr. A. C. G. Rothera on behalf of Wainfleet Motor Services Ltd., Nuneaton, Warwickshire, who were applying for a licence to run an express bus service from Hinckley to Blackpool for threeor four-day excursions. The application was granted and Chairman of the Commissioners, Mr. C. R. Hodgson, said: "We agree entirely with the remarks."

A director of Wainfleet, Mr. Richard Clifford, said the only information he had been able to get from British Railways or local travel agents regarding trains from Hinckley to Blackpool was that he would have to go via Leicester and Manchester. No one had been able to give him any details of times. He said that Wainfleet hoped to operate a direct bus service to Blackpool starting at about 6 p.m. on Friday, returning on Sunday night or Monday, The three-day excursion would cost 30s. and the four-day 35s.

British Railways Board claimed that the service would affect numbers travelling on certain excursion trains, as well as on regular services. An inspector, Mr, Harold Pickering, admitted that the rail fare would be 66s. 6d.
