IT construction of a neW road to bypass the A6 over Shap Fell, South Westmorland Rural District Council last week opposed the proposed route, which was stated to pass through some of the best farmland in the area.
The suggested road follows the Lune Valley through Tebay from a point east of Carnforth to the Shap-Penrith section of the main road. The National Farmers' Union informed the council that the scheme would be catastrophic.
