HAULIERS were warned at Dudley Magistrates' Court last week that they would be prosecuted if they made false declarations to obtain licences. Lawrence Henry Hudson, of Poplar Crescent, Dudley, was fined a total of £100, with £9 12s. 6d. costs.
Hudson pleaded guilty to obtaining a carrier's licence by mean's of a false . declaration, and to seven other charge of failing to comply with the condition' of a licence. He was found guilty or an eighth similar charge.
Mr. M. T. A. Matthews, for the West Midland Licensing Authority, said tha the summonses were taken out tc protect bona fide operators who were buying back their vehicles from thi Road Haulage Executive.
It was stated that when the defen dant applied for a renewal of his licenc, this year, he said he was carrying fo two Dudley concerns. In fact, saii Mr. Matthews, one of them had no given him an order for a year, and h; had not had one from the othe company since 1949.
