NIGHT SERVICES FROM TYNESIDE.

Details of the Inauguration of Two New Services, One to London and the Other to Liverpool.

THE north country, which in the past has given several valuable leads to the road passenger-carrying industry, has, in the course of the past few days, figured in a further contribution which is being made to motorbus and coaching progress by the inauguration of two night services from Tyneside, one being to London, the other to Liverpool.

The machines used for these services will not he of the sleeper type, but will be luxuriously appointed saloon vehicles, equipped with specially designed reclining chairs, which, the promoters of the service aver, will be almost as conclusive to sleep as the more elaborate equipment of the. sleeper-bus. The vehileles will be able to carry a larger complement of passengers and, therefore, it will be possible to run them at the existing day-travel rates on the two routes,. which are as follow :—Liverpool, 25s. return, 15s. single ; -London, 35s. return, 20s. single.

The Liverpool service, on which passeugers *ill also be carried for Leeds, Bolton, and Manchester, was inaugurated on October 8th by the Star Motor Services, who are using Star 23-seater machines. At the outset the coaches are being run in each direction on three nights a

week, viz., from Newcastle on Mondays; Wednesdays, and Fridays, and in the return direction on Tuesdays, Thursdays, an d Saturdays. Ph vehicles start on their journeys at 10 p.m.

The Newcastleto-London route, which will be worked by the Nite Coach Service, will necessitate an 8 p.m. start. Here,

again, journeys will be made on three nights a week in each direction. Albion vehicles, fitted with reclining chairs of a similar type to those used in the Star coaches, will be employed. This ser vice will be inaugurated on October 20th.

That there is a demand for such set,. vices is evidenced by the numerous inquiries made to various Tyneside book ing agents. Each passenger will be supplied with a pillow and rug or blanket, and• the coaches will be fitted with electric radiators and will have lavatory accommodation and, probably, kitchen equipment.
