Disciplinary proceedings involving Hengoedbased E&M Fencing have been adjourned pending investigations into the alleged use of paraffin and rebated diesel to fuel two of Its vehicles.
The company, which holds a one-vehicle licence, appeared before Welsh Traffic Commissioner David Dixon. Vehicle examiner Ian Ward said that the vehicle had been Issued with a prohibition showing a serious maintenance problem for having empty brake fluid reservoirs and inoperative rear brakes.
The driver should have been alerted to this by the behaviour of the vehicle," said Ward. "The vehicles are not being presented to the maintenance contractor under the terms of the contract."
He told the TC that one of the company's vans was Impounded by Customs officers after red diesel was found In the tank. Managing director Kenneth Davies said another of the company's vehicles was discovered to be running on paraffin. He explained that he took on self-employed fencing contractors and gave them money to buy fuel. "I think one of them was fined £250 for that. It didn't Involve me," he said. "I've had no dealings with Customs and Excise."
Adjourning the hearing, the IC said that further enquiries would be made of Customs and Excise. "I would also like the Vehicle Inspectorate to visit you again to see how your maintenance is going on," he told the company.
