Fine Wire Welding

1-1 A NEW development in fine-wire gasshielded welding is announced by Rowen-Arc, part of the welding division of Rubery, Owen and Co., Ltd. Known as the SA-200 series, it is said to provide excellent speed and versatility at low operating costs.

The equipment consists of an existing control and wire drive unit and a new 200-amp. air-cooled torch—the HT.I — which weighs only 22 oz. and will accommodate wire sizes of 0.030, 0.035, 0040 and 0-047 in.

A. feature of the torch is its swivel nozzle which can be rotated through 360 ° allowing the operator to select the best welding position. Rowen-Arc RCV or RCP power sources can be used.

The jack is fully hydraulic and is operated by compressed air, the pressure required being 150 p.s.i. Control is by two small levers about half-way up the body. When mounted on the stand the closed height of the lifting pad is 5 ft. 4-875 in. from the ground. When trolley mounted the pad is 7-875 in. above the bottom of the wheels. Total lift of the jack is 1 ft. 6 in. and the stand type costs £58 10s., whilst the trolley type costs £62.

This gives electrical repairers the same facilities as vehicle manufacturers who have used solderless terminals for many years. Advantages of the A-MP crimp technique used include uniform quality, greater reliability and lower costs in terms of labour time.

The kits consist of an assortment of solderless terminals (15 types are included), a multi-purpose hand tool. which will crimp terminals, cut and strip wire and also sheer small bolts and an instruction sheet all contained in a partitioned metal box.

Air-operated Impact Wrench

ANEW air-operated reversible impact wrench, the CP.606-RS, has been introduced by the Consolidated Pneumatic Tool Co. Ltd., 232 Dawes Road, London, S.W.6. This model has been developed to provide a tool of greater power/weight ratio than any other tool in its size range.

The CP.606-RS uses a six-bladed vanetype air motor to drive a 0.75 in. squaredrive spindle, the hammer blow being derived from the splined motor shaft through a cam roller, hammer and anvil block. Air supply to the motor is controlled by .a throttle valve operating against a spring, the valve being controlled by a spring-loaded trigger and cam in the pistol grip handle of the tool. Direction of operation is controlled by

a reversing valve. Overall length is 8-75 in. and net Weight is 10 1h.
