VAN DOORNE'S Automobielfabriek NV, of Eindhoven, Holland, maker of DAF commercial vehicles, announces that 20 per cent of its goods vehicle production is currently being sold for export. The company is to expand its sales and service network within the Common Market area. Turnover for the current financial year is expected to total 225 million florins (about £224 million) for all sales, as compared with a total of 200 million florins (about £20 million) for the previous period.
Czech Luxury Coach STRIP lighting, radio, television, tape recorder and rear bar with refrigerator, gas cooker, sink with hand pump and thermos cupboard are among fittings in the new Skoda 706 RTO Lux Spezial luxury coach introduced by the Vysoke Myto vehicle works of Czechoslovakia. The coach, 2,500 of which have been ordered by the Soviet Union for overland and international services, weighs 9.1 metric tons and has a payload of 2.7 metric tons. Powered by a Skoda 706 R direct-injection diesel engine developing 160 h.p. at 1,900 r.p.m., the unit has a top speed of 54 m.p.h. and a fuel consumption of 25 litres per 100 km.
VW in Canada OVER the first half of the current year, more than 50 per cent of all Canadian commercial vehicle imports were of Volkswagens, according to Mr. Werner Jansen, managing director of the marketing company Volkswagen Canada Ltd.
Comecon Standardization FOLLOWING agreements between separate member countries—such as that between Poland and Czechoslovakia mentioned in The Commercial Motor for September 7, 1962—nd initial overall plans for co-ordination of vehicle production, the Eastern European Communist economic co-operation organization Comecon has now decided to carry through a complete goods vehicle standardization programme. Output will be divided between the Cominform
member countries, each producer land having its own special branch or branches of manufacture.
New Lorry Plant QERIAL production of the " Flanok-7 rnag " and " Markant "goods vehicles of the Rheinstahl-Hanomagr concern of West Germany is to start in the very near future at the company's newly equipped Bremen works. Full capacity output will be reached by the start of next year.
Mitsubishi in Siam
UTITSUBISHI (THAILAND) CO. al LTD., a subsidiary of the Japanese Mitsubishi industrial concern, plans to build a plant in Thailand for the assembly of 5,400 Mitsubishi goods vehicles annually, sales to be both on the home and on export markets. This move follows the decision of the Toyota and Nissan vehicle concerns of Japan to set up Siamese assembly plants.
