Mr. Foulds joined Pickfords in 1937 and had been general manager for nearly four years prior to his recent resignation. He had previously held a number of senior appointments in that and associated companies and within the B.R.S. organization, including managing director of Carter Patersons, and chairman of the boards of Sutton and Co., Chaplins and Anglo-Continental Container Services. He was also for some years a director of B.R.S. (Contracts) Ltd. Between 1950 and 1959, he was deputy chief traffic manager (commercial) at B.R.S. headquarters.
Mr. Percy H. Jones has been appointed assistant to Mr. K. E. Tatlow, sales director of Hardy Spicer Ltd. Mr. Jones was previously sales manager of Hardy Spicer Walterscheid Ltd., the Birfield Group company. He is succeeded as sales manager of Hardy Spicer Walterscheid Ltd. by Mr. John R. Grimwade, who joined the Birfield Group in 1958. Mr. A. J. Cox has been appointed by Hardy Spicer Walterscheid Ltd. as sales manager for the south of England in succession to Mr; Grimwade.
Mr. Albert Burrows, at present general manager and engineer of Barrow-inFurness Corporation's transport department, has been appointed transport manager for Chesterfield Corporation. He succeeds Mr. E. Deakin, who is moving to a position in Bradford.
At present Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Sir James Dunnett is to be Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour. Sir Thomas Padmore, at present a Second Secretary in the Treasury, is to be Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport.
Mr. M. S. Gray has been appointed .manager of the Sheffield branch of The Astley Industrial Trust Ltd., industrial bankers, and Mr. Peter Atkinson has been appointed manager of their Bradford branch.
Due to the integration of two of the subsidiary companies of BTR Industries Ltd., Microcell Ltd. and Palmer Acro Products Ltd.,the resultant merger fanning the Engineering Products Division of the Group, Mr. C. G. Erlam will be chairman and general manager of the new organization; Mr. J. A. Grace commercial manager, Mr. P. L. Watson production manager, Mr. J. J. Molins technical manager, and Mr. J. A. Hemingway, finance and administration manager. Mr. John Gilbraith of Henry Gilbraith Ltd., Accrington, was appointed chairman of North Western Tippers Ltd. at the first annual meeting of that body which took place last week. Mr. H. Turner of Turners Haulage Ltd., Charley, has been appointed vice-chairman of North Western Tippers Ltd: Mr. L. J. Lambourn who, for the past three years, has been chief tyre designer for Dunlop's European group of factories, has retired after 42 years with Dunlop.
Professor Dr. Heinz Speiser has retired from his position as vice-director of Rheinstahl Hanomag AG, the Hanover goods vehicle manufacturer, on health grounds.
Mr. H. M. Read has been appointed as Assistant Superintendent of Maidstone & District Motor Services Ltd., Medway Towns area.
Mr. Harold Powell, transport officer and maintenance engineer with Bradford Corporation's Engineer's Department, has retired after 40 years' service.
Mr. Geoffrey G. Mansfield, formerly assistant regional manager, has been appointed western regional manager by Henley's Tyre and Rubber Co. Ltd. at Bristol. Mr. James Lawson, formerly assistant regional manager, has been appointed northern regional manager at Newcastle upon Tyne.
Mr. W. A. Barmby, the Hull area manager for the Marsham Tyre Co. Ltd., has been appointed deputy divisional manager for the north eastern division.
Mr. Robert G. Gregg has been appointed a director of Park Royal Vehicles Ltd., a subsidiary of Associated Commercial Vehicles.
Mr. L. Rosser, previously foreman mileage fitter, has been appointed Avon northern area mileage supervisor.
Mr. P. D. Daykin, traffic superintendent and first assistant to the traffic manager of Eastbourne Corporation since November, 1958, has been appointed traffic superintendent to Leicester Corporation. Mr. Daykin was appointed traffic superintendent to Preston Corporation in July, 1956. He had previously been assistant traffic superintendent at Middlesbrough.
Mr. Stewart Eden-Smith has been appointed sales manager of the Nightingale Engineering Co. Ltd., London, S.W.I2. He joined the company in 1956. Mr. Eden-Smith served his apprenticeship with Leyland Motors Ltd. He later became assistant sales and service manager of Sentinel (Shrewsbury) Ltd. Mr. D. S. A. Carroll, chairman and managing director of J. P. Carroll and Co. Ltd and deputy governor of the Bank of Ireland, has been appointed a director of the Irish Dunlop Co. Ltd.
