AMERICA'S HOLD ON TASMANIAN MARKET '

SOME interesting figures relative to the war's effect on the imports of commercial vehicles into Tasmania have lately come to hand. They show that, whilst this section of the trade has not suffered so badly as that concerned with cars, the number of commercial vehicles imported during the 12 months ended with May dropped from 678 in 1939 to 565 in 1940, to 370 in 1941, to 159 in 1942 and to only 59 in 1943.

There was a marked revival in 1944 when no fewer than 537 units were imported, the total, however,. again declining to 361 during the year ending with May last.

From the British point of view, it is regrettable that with one single exception—a Dennis—all the vehicles came from America.
