Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ASHORTAGE of transport facilities in the Cheddar area was mentioned at Bristol, on Monday, by Mr. Philip Coles, general Manager of Crow, Catchpole and Co., Ltd., quarry owners. He was supporting an application by T. H. Transport. High Street, Yatton, for a new B licence to cover two vehicles for carrying quarried materials within 120 miles of base.

Mr. McGregor Johnson, for the applicants, said they also traded as Atley and Co., motor engineers, and in that capacity had supplied two vehicles to Mr. E.

Inman, a Warminster haulier. These vehicles were put at the disposal of Crow,Catebpole and Co.. but Mr. Inman now wanted them deleted from his, licence to make way for replacements.

Mr. Coles told Mr. T. D. Corpe, for Western Transport, Ltd., that he had not approached the applicants, but they had asked him for work. He added that he was not a friend of theirs. Mr. Corpe pointed out that Mr. Inman was no longer working for Crow, Catch pole and Co., and it was to take over this traffic that T.H. Transport were seeking the licence. He warned that if they obtained it, a double grant would have been made.

Granting the application, Mr. S. W.. Nelson, Western Licensing Authority, said he was satisfied there was a need. He restricted the vehicles' operations to work for Crow, Catchpole and Co.

TUNNEL TOLL PLAN RESISTED nBJECTIONS to proposed revisions of °kJ Mersey Tunnel tolls are still being pressed by the Merseyside and North Wales Division of the Traders' Road Transport Association, members were told at their .annual. meeting last week. Mr.. A. L. Bagley, chairman, said the most serious of the proposals would Mean a doubling of tolls for goods vehicles over four tons unladen and for

trailers. .

He said the T.R.T.A. had decided to support the Road Haulage Association, Liverpool Cart and Motor Owners' Association and Liverpool and Birkenhead Chambers of Trade in objecting.

NINE OBJECTIONS TO GRANT QEVEN hauliers joined. British Road Services and British Railways in opposing art application by E. and A. Withey, Newtown, Bristol, on Monday. Withey's asked the Western Licensing Authority, Mr. S. W. Nelson, to grant them another B-licence vehicle, to carry " goods for H. H. and S. Budgett and Co., Ltd., 100 miles, general goods 25 miles." . .

Mr. T. D. Corpe, for the applicants, said they already' had two vehicles on B licence, both of which could carry general goods 15 miles besides working in specific areas for Budgetes. He thought perhaps there was not enough evidence to justify a new vehicle, and suggested that the' conditions of one of the existing licences should be amended. Mr. Nelson agreed and the application for the new lorry was refused.
