MR. L. A. TURNER has been elected chairman of the National Taxi and Car Hire Association, in succession to MR. C. H. BROWN, MR. R. CLARK, an instructor of the B.M.C. commercial-vehicle school and MR. S. E. DELAMONT, senior instructor of the car school, have returned from a lengthy tour of South Africa, where they gave courses to the staffs of B.M.C. dealers, using a mobile school.

MR. F. BRIGGS has become southern divisional sales manager of Pirelli, Ltd. Midlands sales manager is MR. F. R. DODGSDN, and northern sates manager MR. A. B. M. GRANT. Other Pirelli managerial appointments are as follows: MR. H. J. GODDARD, London metropolitan district; MR. S. B. MINERS, London provincial district; MR. G. F. BYRNE, Southampton district; MR. E. W. OBITUARY

WE regret to record the deaths of COL. SIR JOSEPH NAIL, BART., MR. ERNEST H. BLISS, MR. T. F. TURTON and MR. F. H. CROOK.

Sir Joseph, who died last Friday, was a prominent figure in transport in the north-west, and president of the Institute of Transport in 1925-26. He was chair-. man of Joseph Nall and Co. (B.T.C.), Ltd., Lancashire United Transport, Ltd., the South Lancashire Transport Co., Ltd., and the Llandudno and Colwyn Bay Electric Railway, Ltd., and on the board of several other concerns, including Manchester Storage and Transport (B.T.C.), Ltd. Aged 70, he had been a Manchester M.P. from 1918-29.

Mr. Bliss, who was 73, was the chairman of Pirelli, Ltd. He joined the board in 1946 and became head of the concern in 1955.

Mr. Turton, who was 65 and died last Saturday, was certifying officer of the Eastern Traffic Area. He was one of the earliest members of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers. He was largely responsible • for forming the Eastern Centre in 1951 and was its first chairman. For the past two years he had been a member of the council of the Institute.

Mr. Crook, who was 66, operated 10 coaches from Booker, High Wycombe, Bucks.

MR. BOND RE-ELECTED

MR. S. C. BOND was on Tuesday IYI re-elected president of the Traders' Road Transport Association for the fifth successive year. The re-elected vicechairmen were Mr. C. E. Jordan, Mr. S. S. Robson, Mr. K. C. Turner and Mr. S. H. Jones. Mr. J. Janes was re-appointed honorary treasurer.
