GLOBAL PARCELS giant UPS has defused a looming dispute with 600 drivers and handling staff at its newly acquired subsidiary Lynx Express by agreeing to a 3.5% pay rise.
Last month RMT union general secretary Bob Crow warned that strike action could be necessary to resolve the row (CM 9 February). But UPS has agreed a rise backdated to January as well as consolidation of a £40 bonus into basic pay for collection and delivery drivers.
However, the RMT is still seeking assurances that UPS will not demand increased pension contributions from its employees.
