• Three new Traffic Commissioners have been appointed following the retirement of South Eastern & Metropolitan TO Brigadier Mike Turner and North Eastern and North Western IC Keith Waterworth.

Western IC Christopher Heaps is filling the vacancy left by Turner; his place will be taken on 9 May by Philip Brown, a deputy IC in the Eastern Traffic Area.

The new North Western IC is solicitor Beverley Bell, who is the first woman and, at 40, the youngest person to be appointed a IC.

The new North Eastern TC is Brigadier Tom Macartney, who was commissioned into the Royal Corps of Transport in 1969.
