• Diana Dooner, organiser of the Trucker's Turn Campaign, plans to meet European Transport Commissioner Neil Kinnock to lobby for his support to improve the lot of UK hauliers at home and while working abroad.
"I cannot guarantee Neil Kinnock will he on our side," says Dooner, "but I am sure he will be more understanding of our problems than anyone in the Conservative party has ever been. I guarantee I will get to see him."
She is pressing for safe, free overnight truck stops in the UK; harmonisation of tolls, taxes, regulations and fines throughout the EU; and standardisation of driver training.
