Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Storrington hauliers S. W. Cole and Sons have had their licence curtailed from nine to three vehicles with another vehicle taken off the road for three months by the South Eastern LA, Maj-Gen A. F. J. Elm slie.

The written decision, released this week, comes after a two-day inquiry (CM, February 23) when the partnership appeared before the LA to explain four immediate and seven delayed GV9s and two defect notices imposed since 1967.

The LA states: "Noting that only three vehicles are now specified out of the nine authorized and that some attempt has been made to introduce an improved system of preventive maintenance, I have decided that on this occasion it will be a sufficient penalty if the licence is curtailed by reducing the number of authorized vehicles from nine to three and by one further vehicle for three months."
