Mr. C. A. Vandervell has joined Polypeneo, Ltd., as general manager and Mr. P. E. Rook has been appointed manager of their Fluorocarbon department. • Signor Bernardo Mattarella has been named Minister of Transport in the new Italian Cabinet. He will represent Italy at the Conference of European Ministers of Transport.
Mr. H. Genis, chairman of the Northern Trailer Co., Ltd., Bishopbriggs, Glasgow, has been appointed managing director, following the resignation of Mr. A. Carney from the board.
Mr. J. A. Dennis has been appointed publicity manager of A.E.C.. Ltd., in succession to Mr. H. E. Ells, who has resigned to take up an executive position with a firm of public relations consultants.
Mr. 1. Pearson, at present assistant engineer of the North Western Road Car Co., Ltd., has been appointed chief engineer of East Midland Motor Services, Ltd. as from April 1 next, in succession to 141r. J. D. Mundella, who is to become chief engineer of The Potteries Motor Traction Co., Ltd.
Mr. J. Q. Shaul has been appointed production manager of Goodyear-Europe. Until June last year he was production director Goodyear-Great Britain. In his new position Mr. Shaul succeeds Mr. M. F. Gillespie, who has been assigned to new duties in the office of the president of Goodyear International.
The sales and engineering operations of Eaton Axles, Ltd., are being co-ordinated under the leadership of Mr. R. K. Nelson who becomes director of sales and engineering. Mr. A. W. Laughton continues as general manager responsible for other activities of the company. Mr. A. Makin, formerly chief designer, has been appointed chief engineer in place of Mr. T. R. Beady, who becomes assistant technical director.
Mr. V. Rigby, Edbro-B. and E. works manager in charge of hydraulics production at headquarters, and Mr. W. Heyes, works manager in charge of bodybuilding at the Foundry Street factory, are to • make a three-week " production and operation" tour of the Canada. U.SA. and Maj.-Gen. C. Lloyd, the present director of the City and Guilds of London Institute, has been appointed to the newly created post of director-general.
Mr. W. F. Bolton, service manager of British United Traction since 1957, has been appointed works manager of A.E.C. Vehicles (S.A.), Ltd., in Johannesburg.
Lord Cobbold, Mr. A. F. Down and the Hon. William Fraser have been appointed to the board of the British Petroleum Co., Ltd. Mr. Down and Mr. Fraser will be managing directors.
Mr. R. Greaves has been appointed manager of the Newcastle upon Tyne branch of The Astley Industrial Trust, Ltd. Mr. P. B. Siddall has been appointed branch manager at Sheffield.
Mr. J. H. Dodgson, export sales manager of Atkinson Vehicles, Ltd., has retired. His duties have been taken over by Mr. W. Blades, who has spent over 30 years in the heavy vehicle industry. Mr. Blades is dealing particularly with home and export sales.
Mr. S. Peers, of Stephen Peers (Transport), Ltd., Childer Thornton, Cheshire, is to be the next Mayor of Ellesmere Port. He will take office in May. Mr. Peers represents the Livestock Group on the National Council of the Road Haulage Association and is also a member of the National Licensing and Rates Committee,
