A List of the Average Rates for Hiring Motor Coaches for Journeys up to 150 Miles.

wE believe that motor coach owners and others engaged in the passenger transport industry are often interested in the charges which are made for hiring various classes of vehicle in different parts of the country. Not that the rates can be set against the charges ruling in their own districts, for often the conditions of operation are totally dissimilar, but they certainly afford an indication of develonments which are taking place in any particular centre. The table which is given below shows the average hiring charges for 26-30-seater touring chars-à-banes in Lanarkshire and the surrounding districts.

A reduction of 5 per cent, is made where two or more cars are hired for the same party. The miles are taken from and to the points at which the party desires to be picked up and set down, no charge being made for mileage to and from the garage from which the vehicle operates, provided these points are within five miles of the garage. Beyond five miles a charge of 1s. per mile is made between the picking-up and setting-down points and the five-mile radius. During July, August and September and every Saturday eight hours is allowed for all journeys of less than 40 miles, and any hours exceeding this allotment are charged extra at 2s. Bd. per hour or part of an .hour. Journeys of 41 to 130 miles have to be completed to the setting-down point prior to 11 p.m., or an extra charge of 7s. 6d. per hour or part of an hour is made.
