at the time of Leyland Daf's receivership from a joint Leyland Daf/Renoult vehicle development project have received an out of court settlement from Renault.
While refuting allegations that it was responsible For the workers under Transfer of Undertakings regulations, Renault has agreed to pay a "substantial proportion" of the compensation the workers had claimed For unfair dismissal.
The settlement affects up_ to 50 of the 280 staff employed on the Excel project at the time of Leyland Daf's collapse. Solicitors acting for the Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union are continuing claims for up to 2,000 ex-Leyland Dal employees. They will mount a High Court challenge that the Government allegedly broke European Union employment law (CM 2127 April).
