Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Could youplease advise me on licence groups? I own and drive a 7.5 tonne truck which is registered as PLG (camper van). I don't have an HGV licence. What is the maximum permitted weight of trailer I can tow, GVW or GTW? I have recently re-read your article "Licence Groups Have Loopholes" (CM 27 June 1991). Does this still apply— and if it does, will it apply to

a PIG vehicle? I assume it also referred to a drawbar truck, also what is the maximum weight trailer towed by a car-type ball hitch?

I thought I would check with you before I buy a nonHGV drawbar truck or can I PLG a heavier vehicle (maximum 7.5 tonnes) into a camper van?

B Trottiscliffe,West Kent.

7 The DVLA replies: The holder of Category B (which includes Cl+E) may drive any rigid goods vehicle of not more than 7.5 tonnes can draw any weight trailer providing the combined weight of the vehicle and trailer does not exceed 825 tonnes, A new driver who passes a Category 2B driving test on or after 1 July 19% will not receive the additional E entitlement. A further driving test will need to be taken and passed to gain Category B+E which will enable a trailer in excess of 750kg to be drawn. F The DVLA has sent Mr Walkling its Towing Trailers factsheet, Apri11994.
