Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Seddon Atkinson will launch new refuse vehicles at the INVNI Show in Torquay (see preview, page 26). The Pacer is an improved version of the Seddon Atkinson RCV chassis launched last year. It will be available in a number of chassis variants—an 8x4 with Cummins L325 10-litre engine will be added to the 4x2, 6x2 linked steer and 6x4 models.

Among the changes, most of which were suggested by operators, are a steel three-piece bumper incorporating mesh-covered headlights.

The Seddon Atkinson "A" grille has disappeared to give operators more room for sign writing on the front of the cab: its absence is likely to be temporary while Seddon produces a smaller version. A shaped steel guard protects the bottom of the radiator; ground clearance remains 330mm.

The ceiling has been raised by 10cm to 1.95m at the front and by 2.5cm to 2.0m at the rear. Access is now by steel fabricated steps in place of the alloy covered fibreglass. There is also the option of a onepiece folding door which stands 10.2cm proud of the cab when open; the door is mounted on the A-pillar and profiled over the steps.

Standard equipment will include Allison automatic transmission and twin external safety beacons: 6x2 and 8x4 Pacers, both with Heil refuse bodies, will be among the exhibits on Seddon Atkinson's stand at Torquay. A 6x4 model with the optional folding door will he shown on the Somers Handling stand.
