LOGISTICS FIRM Macgregor Europe has invested an undisclosed sum on new IT infrastructure and a warehouse management system in a bid to attract new business.

The upgraded system enables customers to track the whereabouts of every parcel, says the East Lancashire-based business. Managing director Frazer Durris says: The new system will speed up business transactions and improve our warehousing and transport efficiency. Users can place orders online and it gives our customers peace of mind that their parcel is safe because they can track it in real time." Macgregor Europe has also restructured its management board, which it says will keep the company going forward during the economic downturn.

Durris adds: "Former managing director Peter Macgregor is now the firm's chairman and is taking a more active role in looking after our existing customer base, while at the same time promoting the business and gaining new clients."

The company has recently won a contract with a large fruit-drink supplier to store, pick and deliver items in the UK and is also in contract talks with two high-street retailers.

However, Macgregor says it has lost around 20% of its customers, primarily those in the automotive sector. "Like everyone else, we've lost some business."
