The failure of Dumfries Fr,' ida to reimburse a driver for expenses incurred going through the Mersey Tunnel has been held to be an unlawful deduction of wages by a Belfast Industrial Tribunal.

The Tribunal ordered the company to pay driver Robert Hammond a total of £495. made up of £475 in wages for the five days in September when Ile worked for the company and £20 in respect of Mersey Tunnel fees.

It refused to consider the company's response to Hammond's claim on the grounds that it had been submitted out of time, ruling that it could not take part in the proceedings It rejected claims that the response had been sent in time and its late delivery was the fault of the Royal Mail.
