Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Exel Logistics is closing one of its two depots in Belfast with the possible loss of up to 30 drivers' jobs. The warehousing depot at Duncrew Road, which employs 80, will close on 31 July due to a "reduced demand for stockholding at the site".

Joe McCusker of the Transport & General Workers Union in Belfast says local depots are being bypassed by suppliers because new supermarkets like Sainsbury's have built their own warehouses.

McCusker warns that of the 33 drivers affected, "only six or seven will be redeployed to the other Belfast depot at Mallusc". Exel confirms that job losses are a "possibility", but says all attempts will be made to redeploy workers.

Exel is confident of renewing its Northern Irish distribution contract with Kellogg's.
