Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

haulage very seriously. However, once a week our quirky correspondent, TIT Hmk, steps off his perch to take a humorous look at the industry to keep us all sane. If you have any off-beat yarns that illustrate the stranger. or sillier, side of the business, he'd like to hear from you. As a softhearted old bird, he's also happy to publicise charitable works— and is always interested in events for the vintage vehicles he drove as a fledgling. Drop the Hawk a line at Commercial Motor, Bird's Eye View, Rm H203, Quadrant House, The Quadrant, Sutton, Surrey SM2 5AS, or fax him on 0181 652 8969.

That sinking feeling

mhen the Hawk sets off for a day trip in his Reliant Robin he often passes water en route. Not content with passing water, soccer fan Norman Yeardley plunged headlong into the English Channel in his specially converted three-wheeler, in a bid to cross to France to watch the ill-fated England-Romania match in Toulouse. Sadly for Norm, minutes into his big adventure the old gal began to take in water and he was forced to return to Blighty. Brittania's waves proved a little too rough for this Reliant Robin which, at the grand old age of 20, is more used to the smooth waters of the canals around Norman's home town of Barnsley in South Yorkshire. The Hawk takes his hat off to Norman; not only for introducing the Aqua Robin, but for keeping up with the best traditions of the great British eccentric with a truly heroic failure (much, you might say, like the England football team).
