nESPITE the loss of half an hour in
the early stages of the Northampton round on Sunday, when a parade of " old soldiers" held up the road test proceedings, the competition was completed by 4.20 p.m. after 101 drivers had provided some interesting competition. This was good going and a credit to the area's new secretary, Mr. E. Mabbutt—who took over very recently in the middle of the organization—and his able band of helpers.
The whole affair ran quite smoothly and I liked particularly the rapid posting of detailed results after each class. The spectators, too, were kept well informed by frequent loudspeaker announcements. Driving honours of the day went to P. L. Goff (Phipps Brewery Ltd.) after a run-off between the class winners. All the contestants in this used identical vehicles—Bedford TK tippers. In addition to his trophy, he collected a cash award of £20 donated by Golden Wonder Crisp Co. Ltd.
Winner of Class G for the past three years, W. J. Randall (F. W. Randall and Sons) this time had to be content with the runner-up spot, the loss of 81 points in the reversing test placing him 30 points behind the winner, J. Emery (C. Butt Ltd.). George Kirkley
