Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

)UTFIT FOR DERBYSHIRE HAULIER legs. When the trailer is tipped, it is moved forward towards the tractive unit (which in this case may be located at any angle to the trailer axis) or the tractor is moved rearwards towards the 'trailer, according to whether the tractor brakes or the trailer brakes are applied. The wheels of the front axle of the •trailer_• are lifted from the ground by cable slings during the tipping operation and the trailer is tipped about the wheels of the rear axle, which .act as hinge points. The distance between the hinge points is, therefore, considerably increased compared with a conventional tipper.

The radial arms are trunnion-mounted in line with the coupling and jointed to the 15-in.-deep H-section frame members amidships. Frame members are tapered at the front end and are braced by channel-section cross-bearers, additional reinforcing being provided in the area of the radial-arm hinge pins. The steel lifting bracket at the front is tied to the ends of the main trailer members.

Supplied by the North Derbyshire Engineering Co. Ltd., the Norde bogie is. fitted with two Rubery Owen axles which are carried at the ends of oscillating beams underslung from central spring carriers of a rubber suspension system.

This follows Norde practice in that the two Metalastik multiple-pack springs on each side are located between the carrier and the frame member at an angle of about 45 degrees, and deflection of the wheel is resisted by the rubber partly in compression and partly in shear, which gives a near-constant-periodicity characteristic. Each axle is stabilized by a rubber-bushed A bracket, and a single telescopic shock absorber is fitted on each

side above the spring carrier. A three-line air-pr'essure . braking _system is employed and the brakes can be manually applied by a ratchet mechanism located in front of the bogie.

Powered by a Leyland 0.680 diesel engine, the Super Beaver is designed for export and has a gross train rating of 36 tons. Torque is transmitted through a 10-speed gearbox to a worm final drive with a ratio of 7.3 to 1. Michelin X tyres are fitted to all wheels of the outfit, the

covers of the tractor and trailer 'being respectively .10.00-20 and 10.00-22.5.

Having an internal length. of 26 ft., a width of 8 ft. and sides of 2 ft., the body has a capacity of approximately 15 Cu. yd., and in the main the vehicle will be employed to carry gypsum and clinker. Two additional Villiers-type trailers have been ordered, which will be hauled by Atkinson six-wheeled tractive units and fitted with Neville U-section aluminium bodies. P.A.C.B.
