THE Bill enabling this country to accede to the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road, went swiftly through its remaining stages in the Commons last week.
It survived unaltered the Committee and Report stages, and the Third Reading, and now goes to the Lords with the blessing of the Government.
Mr. Martin McLaren (Tory, Bristol North West) who piloted the measure— the Carriage of Goods by Road Bill— through the Commons, noted during the Third Reading discussion that several European countries were already parties to the Contract, which came into force in 1961.
The Government very much welcomed the passage of the Bill, which ratified a Convention td which nine European countries had already adhered, commented Mr. Stephen Swingler, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport.
It was something the Government felt to be in the interests of transport and road carriers generally.
