Mr. S. J. Barnes, managing director of Clayton Dewandre Holdings Ltd., is relinquishing his post as managing director of Clayton Dewandre Co. Ltd.. Lincoln. the main operating subsidiary, in order to devote more time to group development. He remains as executive chairman of Clayton Dewandre Co. Ltd., of which Mr. .1. W. Kinchin has been appointed managing director.

Mr. John 0. Hattie was guest of honour at a presentation dinner in the Royal Hotel, Edinburgh, last week. The dinner was arranged by the Scottish division of the Traders Road Transport Association to mark Mr_ Hastie's resignation as divisional secretary after more than 20 years' service with the Association. At the recent National Conference of the TRTA in Scarborough, Mr. Mastic received a presentation from the Association'S staff, but the Scottish members wanted to show their own personal appreciation of Mr.

Hastie's services, At the dinner, the divisional chairman, Mr. R. G. Torrance, made the presentation. At its first meeting last week, the newly elected finance committee of the Road Haulage Association elected Mr. J. B. Mitchell (Scottish Central Carting Co. Ltd., Leith) as chairman and Mr. D. 0. Good (Pioneer Haulage Ltd., Beer) as vice-chairman for the coming year.

Obituary WE regret to record the deaths of Mr. G. T. Metter, Mr. N. M. Pilling and Mr. J. Woodhead.

Mr. Metter, who was 60, was appointed a member of the Transport Tribunal last year. His career had been principally on the executive side of the air transport and oil industries.

Mr. Pilling, of Brighouse, was for many years managing director of Charles Wood Ltd., Brighouse coach proprietors. He was the first chairman of the Yorkshire Motor Coach Owners' Association Ltd. to be elected more than 30 years ago. He was 65.

Mr. Woodhead was deputy chairman of Jonas Woodhead and Sons (Leeds) Ltd., suspension equipment manufacturers, until he retired at the end of 1964.
