Foden braking
IN our recent road test of a 32-ton Foden artic, a printing error transposed the figures for the secondary brake efficiency. From 32km/h (20mph), the peak efficiency should have read 0.52g and not 0.25g.
Customs strike
FROM December 10 the Customs point at Trieste, which joins Italy with Yugoslavia, has been closed following a strike by the Italian Customs officers. This has resulted in more than 200 vehicles being delayed in Trieste.
The strike is taking the form of a work to rule and the officers are refusing to work outside their normal office hours.
Afghan TIR
THE Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce announces that although it is the designated agency for issuing TIR Carnets it is not yet ready to begin operations—and may not be able to do so until the end of this year.
Information for Afghanistan indicates that the Customs in Kabul will accept carnets on a very limited scale, but it is hoped that Islem Qala on the Iran frontier will be able to operate unlimited acceptances by April. In the meantime, there will be delays, but advance notice of arrival to Kabul will expedite clearance.
Iraq road
OPERATORS with contracts to the new Iraq steel works will soon have a new 25km road between the works and Basra.

NEW roads are also under construction in Iran linking the Caspian Sea with Mashad — 770km away; the North/ South urban trunk road at Abbas Abad in Tehran is nearly completed; and the Abbas Abad road joining the Karadj expressway Abe Ali is to be opened soon.
